OTTAWA, ONTARIO – March 22, 2018 – The Cannabis Canada Association (Cannabis Canada) commends the Senate of Canada for approving Bill C-45, the Cannabis Act for second reading and advancing the legislation to committee.
“We’re thrilled that the Senate has chosen the path of responsibility and regulation as opposed to the stigma and prohibition of past decades,” said Allan Rewak, Acting Executive Director of Cannabis Canada. “Today represents another important milestone for our industry, for Canada, and for good public policy.”
Cannabis Canada looks forward to working with the members of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology as they begin their review of the bill.
“Prohibition has failed. Canada has one of the highest rates of cannabis consumption in the world, and a significant number of our citizens are consuming products grown illegally, without any controls or oversight,” said Neil Closner, Cannabis Canada Board Chair. “Today’s vote is one step closer toward the creation of a regulated adult consumer use system that keeps cannabis away from kids and profits away from organised crime.”
